Events at Annan Harbour
Annan Harbour Action Group has organised the annual Annan Raft Race, which over the past three events has been attended by over 1500 people. The Harbour Festival in 2019 attracted 3,000 people to a day of fish cookery demonstrations, hands- on boat activities, traditional crafts and heritage displays and children’s entertainment.
Annan Harbour Action Group also works with community partners to deliver heritage projects and interpretation and has produced shows, books and leaflets. A theatrical production, telling the story of an immigrant ship that left the Solway for Prince Edward Island in 1770, was presented on the quayside to a Covid limited audience on 17th July 2021.
Unable to run a Harbour Festival a Harbour at Home event under the Doors Open Day banner was delivered on 17th Sept 2021. This allowed Annan Harbour Action Group to present plans to more than 400 attendees and take on their views. Installation of pontoons and support from Community Land Scotland facilitated a visit to Minister’s Merse for Trustees and members on 9th Oct 2021, while the final event of the year will be a Solstice Walk on 19th December when families will kindle a flaming ember at the mouth of the Annan before bringing it back to the harbour to ignite a brazier – to be followed by mulled wine and turkey and some seasonal carols.
