The Regeneration of Annan Harbour
The Harbour Hub and the Ministers’ Merse.
In 2021, we took ownership of these two properties:
The Minister's Merse
This is a spit of land which separates the harbour basin from the River Annan. It has been abandoned for more than 30 years, and is covered in weeds and scrub species.
The Warehouse (Harbour Hub)
A substantial Georgian sandstone building, of over two floors, stands adjacent to the Harbour quay and opposite the Minister’s Merse. Currently this building is in a poor state of repair, but it has the capacity to become an impressive feature of harbour re-development.
We are now looking to regenerate these assets.
Transitions …
Although the following steps focus on the Harbour Hub building, this work is interlinked with the development of the Minister’s Merse and the landscape around it.
Step One
Now that we have secured ownership of the Harbour Hub building, we have installed signage on-site with displays of our plans for Annan Harbour to keep the public informed of progress. Work has begun on securing the funding necessary to repair and upgrade the Hub building.
Step Two
Our immediate priority is to repair the roof to ensure that the building is wind and watertight. This work will prevent further deterioration and create an indoor space that, while initially basic, will be safe for members of the public to enter.
Step Three
Repairing the roof will allow for limited indoor activities, events, and temporary exhibitions. We will also be able to use the building as a meeting hub for our continued outdoor activity.
Step Four
Full refurbishment of the Hub building will give us a permanent base for our activities and will allow us to begin generating income from the heritage centre, café, shop and bunkhouse.
